The 20 minute discovery call gives us the chance to find out if we're a good match and would like to schedule a first session. We'll discuss what you'd like to focus on in our work together, as well as clinic policies and logistics.
-
In our first sessions, we'll focus on gathering information, discussing your goals for therapy, and establishing a trusting relationship. These initial sessions help us determine if we are a good match and sets the foundation for our collaborative work together. Anahid will ask about your current concerns, hopes for therapy, and about your background. If it feels like too much to even know where to start, we can help with that too and guide the intro sessions.

Canyon Psychology doesn’t bill insurance directly. However, we can provide superbills or monthly statements that may help you receive out-of-network reimbursement through your insurance provider, FSA, or employer program. We are happy to guide you through the steps to find out what’s possible. If you’d like to learn more about rates, availability, or whether we’re a good match, the easiest way to start is by reaching out for a quick conversation.

Emotional ups and downs are normal during adolescence. Struggles and mistakes are actually part of healthy development. They help teens learn and grow.
However, therapy may be helpful when emotions become overwhelming and interfere with daily life or stress begins to take physical tolls like headaches and stomach aches. If your teen has experienced a difficult experience or trauma, they are lashing out at others or turning emotions inward, or if you observe destructive patterns of thinking or behaviors — it’s time for therapy. -
As your child's greatest support, we want to ensure you have the information and resources you need to promote your child's healthy growth and development. Whether you are just starting this journey alongside your child or are walking a familiar road, we will meet you where you are and help you in your role.

When initiating therapy for your child, the first appointment will be between the parent or guardian, and the therapist, during which the parent will discuss their concerns, observations and hopes for their child, as well as relevant case history. The following 2-4 sessions will be between your teen and Canyon Psychology and are considered part of their initial assessment. The assessment period allows your child to see how they feel with Anahid and allows her to determine if they are a good clinical match for your child’s needs. Following the initial assessment period, Canyon Psychology will provide their findings and recommendations to the parent and establish their therapeutic partnership.

It is understandable that you may be eager to know what's happening in your teen's sessions. We have found that for therapy to be truly effective, your child needs to feel that they have a confidential space where they can be honest and vulnerable without fear of everything being reported back.
We will keep you informed about general progress, such as whether your teen is attending sessions, participating in treatment, and what themes are being addressed (example: school stress, peer relationships, family dynamics). This approach balances your need to stay informed with your teen's need for privacy and creates the best foundation for meaningful therapeutic progress. Ultimately it can contribute to stronger communication within your family.
